Official Stephenie Meyer MySpace Announcement

Stephenie's publicist Elizabeth posted the following announcement on stepheniemeyer.com:
It has come to our attention that there are several people on social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook pretending to be Stephenie. The only site besides StephenieMeyer.com that Stephenie has is a MySpace site at www.myspace.com/stephenie_meyer. Only announcements on this website and Stephenie's official MySpace page should be considered legitimate. Please note, due to the overwhelming number of e-mails she receives on her MySpace page, Stephenie is unable to answer e-mails.
Also, Stephenie is aware of the numerous Twilight conventions happening next year. It is exciting to see so many fans wanting to celebrate the books together. However, these conventions are not authorized or endorsed by Stephenie and she will not be attending any of the conventions. We hope that fans enjoy the conferences, but wanted to make this distinction so people weren't spending money under the assumption that Stephenie would be in attendance.
While I'm posting, I wanted to take a minute to congratulate everyone involved in the production of Twilight the movie. If you haven't been following the box office statistics, I would suggest checking them out on BoxOfficeMojo.com. The success really has been phenomenal, so congrats to everyone at Summit, the very talented actors, and everyone else involved in the making of the film!
And on a slightly unrelated note, I forgot to post a link to the Twilight: The Score when it was released last week (this is separate from the soundtrack, and the only song that is on both is "Bella's Lullaby"). It has been receiving great reviews on-line, so I went to listen to some of the samples at Amazon.com (link above) and it is extremely good. If you are still looking for gifts for the holidays, this might be a good one for anyone who enjoyed the movie.
We at StephenieMeyer.com want to wish everyone a happy holiday season. We appreciate you visiting our site. Please be safe and have an enjoyable few weeks.

ABS-CBN remake of "TWILIGHT" a hoax?

There are strong reactions from ‘Twilight” cult fans that a petition for ABS-CBN not to proceed with the project is on-going. The petition centers two issues: ABS-CBN’s lack of ability to do justice to the novel and Rayver not being fit to do the Edward Allen part. Before they do this, they have to find out first if the buzz is for real or a hoax?

Bella Swan Loves Filipino Danag!

Why get outrage about the planned remake of Twilight in the Philippines? Be so proud (no puns intended)...Filipino have been mentioned in the first and last book! One of the example Stephanie used for Vampires... isn't it weird that Stephenie knew about Danag than most Filipinos. In the book, Bella Swan researched about vampire mythologies through the internet and she found the info below:

"The rest of the site was an alphabetized listing of all the different myths of vampires held throughout the world. The first i clicked on, the Danag, was a Filipino vampire supposedly responsible for planting taro on the islands long ago. The myth continued that the Danag worked with humans for many years, but the partnership ended one day when a woman cut her finger and a Danag sucked her wound, enjoying the taste so much that it drained her body completely of blood." - * Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, pages 184-185 (page 116 in hardbound copy)

One must admit that the subject of Philippine vampires is quite difficult and confusing. To my understanding there are over fifty ethnic groups in the Philippines, and each one has its own dialect. Moreover, there are specific names for different types of Philippine vampires. But, at the same time, these names are interchangeable as you go from one place to another. (The same problem of variable, inter-changing names for different types of vampires also occurs in European lore, such as Romania.)

In the Philippine Islands today, the term Aswang, in its broadest meaning, applies to all the vampiric witches and sorcerers in Philippine lore.
There is some chance that this creature was also known as Asuwang.

Bebarlangs: A tribe found in the Philippines that had members that practiced a form of psychic vampirism. They apparently sent out there astral bodies and fed on the life forces and vitality of individuals.

Danag: A Filipino vampire held to be very ancient as a species, responsible for having planted taro on the islands long ago. The Danag worked with humans for many years but the partnership ended one day when a woman cut her finger and a Danag sucked her wound, enjoying the taste so much that it drained her body completely of blood.

Mandurugo (possibly also seen as Mandurago): A Filipino vampire found in the region of Capiz, said to appear as a beautiful woman during the day and as a foul flying fiend at night. The Mandurugo ("bloodsucker") uses her beauty to attract and wed young men, thus providing her with a constant blood supply.

Robert Pattinson gets a new look

For those of you who could care less about Robert Pattinson’s hair - read no further. For those of you who do care, read on.

Normally, a simple hair cut isn’t such a big deal - but in the Twilight universe, where a vast majority of the fans obsess over Rob’s hair, it’s a slightly bigger deal. Alas, the boy got a hair cut, but the hair will grow back - so don’t cry (too much)

Separated at Birth: Xian Lim and Robert Pattinson

The Twilight craze began sweeping the world this year, and there's just something about Xian that reminds us of the vampire cutie. (Maybe it's his haunting, piercing eyes?) He only moved to the country from the US four months ago, but already he's playing Gerald Anderson's brother on My Only Hope and juggling training for the UE basketball team with his studies in Psychology. "I think that life here is way better than life in San Francisco," he says. We're hoping he'll stay for as long as he wants!

hisgoldeneyes.com: Filipino Version of Twilight as a TV Series?

There's a lot of buzz right now about a Filipino version of Twilight to hit TV screens in the Philippines. It's entitled "Takipsilim" and is to begin production in February.

Wakpo.com: Takipsilim - Twilight tv series in the Philippines

takipsilimtwilight
I never expected that a local station in the Philippines would actually secure the rights of Stephanie Meyer’s “Twilight” Saga. ABS-CBN reportedly paid $1 million to secure the rights for the television series. The tentative title of the series is “Takipsilim”, a literal tagalog translation of “Twilight”. Although the cast hasn’t been confirmed yet, Shaina Magdayao is set to play the role of Isabella Swan and Rayver Cruz will tackle the role of Edward Cullen. The other casts set to play their respective roles are;
Valeen Montenegro as Alice Cullen
Gabby Concepcion as Dr. Carlisle Cullen
Luis Manzano as Emmett Cullen
Al Tantay as Charlie Swan
Yayo Aguila as Renee Dwyer
Fred Payawan as Jacob Black
Carlos Agassi as James
Chin Chin Gutierrez as Esme Cullen
Karylle as Rosalie Hale
Joross Gamboa as Jasper Hale
Jessy Mendiola as Jessica Stanley
Empress Schuck as Angela Weber
Brad Murdoch as Laurent
Nikki Bacolod as Victoria
Aaron Villaflor as Mike Newton
Unfortunately this news isn’t so well received by everyone in the Philippines. It’s a riot hanging out in the local forums where majority of the posters are furious and foaming in their mouths. In my opinion I think there’s a misplaced anger and shame. It’s no big deal if the Twilight tv series will look shoddy and lame. To Filipinos who are ashamed to be Filipinos just because of a silly re-make, isn’t that pathetic? Have you heard of Americans ashamed of being Americans just because of a cheesy Hollywood film?
Foreigners will not look down on the country just because of a cheesy and lame adaptation of a popular series. It’s not an embarrassment for the whole country since ABS CBN DOES NOT represent the country. It’s just a TV station and nothing more. Let the TV station suffer the shame and humiliation it so deserves. The station has already paid for the rights and taking big risk in the process. Let’s all be a sport and have a great laugh at it. Let’s just say the ABS CBN succeeds in getting the much need attention they so badly wanted.
Here’s bunch of Hilarious Takipsilim “meme” I found at the pinoy exchange forum.

Takipsilim Music and Lyrics

"Takipsilim" is still a rumored title for this twilight series in the Philippines. Whether they stick to the working title or not, the Callalily's Takipsilim song will probably be used as the official theme song of this controversial series.

Artist: Callalily lyrics
Album: Other Song Lyrics
Title: Takipsilim lyrics

Lyrics to Takipsilim :
Ilang hakbang papalayo
Sa bawat singhot
Ako'y napapaso
Ihahanap ka ng langit
Saan kita itatago?

[Chorus]
Ang buhay di mahalaga
Kung ikaw hindi makakasama
Walang ibang idadalangin
O diyos ko
Wag kang agawin sa akin

Kislap ng 'yong mga mata
Ang siyang nagbibigay ng kulay
Mga bulong ng hangin na naguugnay
Sa? yo at sa'king buhay

[Repeat chorus]

[bridge]
At sayong paglayo
Tangay tangay mo ang buhay ko
Sa bawat pintig ng puso ko
Aking dalangin
Wag kang agawin sa akin

[Repeat chorus]

Gagawin ang lahat
Wag kang agawin sa akin
Gagawin ang lahat
Wag kang agawin sa akin
Gagawin ang lahat
Gagawin ang lahat
Gagawin ang lahat
O diyos ko, wag kang agawin sa akin

Author turns spotlight on "Twilight"

Stephenie Meyer

Stephenie Meyer’s life changed dramatically on June 2, 2003. The stay-at-home mother of three young sons woke-up from a dream featuring seemingly real characters that she could not get out of her head. “Though I had a million things to do (i.e. making breakfast for hungry children, dressing and changing the diapers of said children, finding the swimsuits that no one ever puts away in the right place), I stayed in bed, thinking about the dream. Unwillingly, I eventually got up and did the immediate necessities, and then put everything that I possibly could on the back burner and sat down at the computer to write—something I hadn't done in so long that I wondered why I was bothering.” Meyer invented the plot during the day through swim lessons and potty training, then writing it out late at night when the house was quiet. Three months later she finished her first novel, Twilight.

With encouragement from her older sister (the only other person who knew she had written a book), Meyer submitted her manuscript to various literary agencies. Twilight was picked out of a slush pile at Writer’s House and the manuscript quickly made its rounds among publishers. Megan Tingley at Little, Brown Books for Young Readers made a major six-figure preemptive bid for three books.

Twilight was one of 2005’s most talked about novels and within weeks of its release the book debuted at #5 on The New York Times bestseller list. There are over 2.2 million copies of Twilight in-print and the rights have been sold in over 33 countries. Among its many accolades, Twilight was named an “ALA Top Ten Books for Young Adults,” an Amazon.com “Best Book of the Decade…So Far”, and a Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year.

The highly-anticipated sequel, New Moon, was released in September 2006 and has spent 31 weeks at the #1 position on The New York Times bestseller list. The book was so highly-anticipated by Meyer’s eager fans that Advance Readers Copies were being sold on eBay for as high as $380. New Moon has 1.4 million copies in-print and rights have been sold in 27 countries.

The third book in Meyer’s Twilight saga, Eclipse was released on August 7, 2007 and sold 150,000 copies its first day on-sale. The book debuted at #1 bestseller lists across the country, including USA Today and The Wall Street Journal. The book already has 1.5 million copies in print and rights have been sold in 21 countries. It was also #1 bestseller in Germany, Spain and Argentina.

Meyer is greeted on book tours like a rock star – thousands of fans show up to her appearances dressed up as characters from the books and make homemade t-shirts. They often travel far and wide to see their favourite author. At a recent event in San Francisco, a girl travelled all the way from Germany to meet the author – over 6000 miles!

2008 promises to be a big year for Meyer. On May 6, 2008, Little, Brown and Company will release The Host, Meyer’s highly-anticipated debut for novel adults. And on August 2, 2008, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers will publish the fourth and final book in the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn. The movie version of Twilight will be released by Summit Entertainment nationwide on December 12, 2008, starring Kristen Stewart ("Into The Wild") and Robert Pattinson ("Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”).

Stephenie Meyer graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in English Literature, and is often asked “What’s a nice Mormon girl like you doing writing about vampires?” She lives in Arizona with her husband and sons.
